Celebrate Kid’s Day

When: August 2010 (during America’s Grape Week- specific date TBD)

Where: Centaur Stride

Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Stables will join in the festivities of America’s Grape Week and will host a Kid’s Day event. Tour the facility and enjoy a day at the stables as well as learn about how our horses are used for therapy, how to care for and train horses for therapeutic riding, lead and groom them and have a riding lesson.  Play fun games including treasure and scavenger hunts, participate in nature walks and enjoy the pristine beauty of the woodlands and wetlands. A guide will host the nature walk and educate guests about the plants and animals living on the grounds in their natural habitat. Some animals may be out to see while others will need to be identified by their tracks!

This event is planned for awareness of Centaur Stride and therapeutic riding and in conjunction with the “support our horses' fund-raiser”.  Learn how our horses help people with disabilities through our special programs. Donations can be made through our website.

The day’s activities include:

  • Tour of the Facility
  • Horse training overview for therapy horses
  • Horse grooming and care stations
  • Horseback riding
  • Games (on and off horse)
  • Treasure hunts
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Crafts & Activities
  • Plant ID
  • Animal tracking games
  • Nature walks
  • Food and Beverages

Food & refreshments will be available- hotdogs, corn, baked goods, drinks and more!

Local Radio Station Annual Tavern Charity Golf Tourney Benefits Centaur Stride

Jamestown’s local radio station, 106.9 KISS FM, held its 10th annual Tavern Charity Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 6, 2010.  The golf tournament was held at Southhills golf course.

Because of my position at the Arthur R. Gren, Co., I have the privilege of working closely with Sherrie Brookmire, the radio station’s manager. After one of our meetings, I was telling Sherrie all about Centaur Stride.  She immediately wanted this year’s tournament to benefit Centaur Stride.

The tournament is a 4 person team scramble with 36 teams participating.  On several of the course’s holes were fabulous prizes that were given away; golf bags for the longest drives for male and female.  Overnight stays for the winning team overall at Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, NY. On the 9th hole, a 2010 yellow Camaro, donated by Landmark Chevrolet (Randolph, NY), was the prize for a hole-in-one. For the first time, that feat was accomplished.  Dave Emlee was the winner of that fabulous car.  After the tourney, a wonderful buffet was put on by the Jamestown Bowling Company’s Game Time Sports Bar and Grill.

The tavern tournament was able to raise $1084.00 for Centaur Stride.  Special thanks goes out Sherrie Brookmire and staff at KISS FM, Tom Trusso, owner of Southhills Golf Course, Landmark Chevrolet, Arthur R. Gren Co., Game Time Sports Bar and Grill, Fresh Cut Meats and More, Jamestown Cycle Shop, Troyer Farms, Pepsi of Jamestown, Evans Liquor and JB Liquor.  Also to all those golfers who braved the rain and much cooler temperatures that day to benefit such a wonderful cause. THANK YOU!!

Night at the Races hosted by the Lakewood Kiwanis

One ticket provides 6 chances to “bet” and one chance to win the Grand Prize! Additional betting tickets are available for purchase. No Cash prizes. All prizes donated by area businesses and sponsors. Food and cocktails will also be available for purchase.

Daemen College Spring Gala Benefits Centaur Stride

The Daemen College Student Physical Therapy Association held their 5th annual charity Gala on April 10, 2010 at Banchetti Banquet Facility in Amherst, NY.  Mrs. Margaret Mazzone is Daemen’s faculty advisor for the Student Physical Therapy Association.  Matthew Tomassini, a rider here at Centaur Stride, has an older sister, Megan, who is a student at Daemen College in the Physical Therapy program.  Each year the SPTA votes on what organization is to be the benefactor of the Gala. Our sincere thanks go out to Megan for presenting a brief summary of Centaur Stride, which lead to an overwhelming vote in favor of Centaur Stride.

Daemen CollegeDr John Stachura, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy department at Daemen College, was the committee head and this year’s co-chairs were; Chelsea Foss and Emily Strong, both 5th year students in the program.  Dr. Sharon Held, Physical Therapy Department Chair, was also on hand for the festivities, along with numerous other faculty members of Daemen College.

It was a wonderful evening with cocktails, dinner, and dessert along with live music provided by the band, Route 66. One of Daemen’s own, Dr. Gary Styn, also a professor at the college, plays in the band. A basket raffle-with more than 60 baskets, a silent auction, and 50/50 drawing were held to raise money for Centaur Stride.  A special thanks to all of the area businesses and private donors who supported this wonderful cause.

The SPTA rose close to $4000.00 for Centaur Stride at the Gala Charity event.  We are genuinely touched and grateful to everyone who worked so diligently on this event to make it such a success.
